kate-moss1Supermodel Kate Moss has sparked yet another controversy after being accused of making comments that could promote extreme weight loss or anorexia among models and young teen girls. Moss caused an uproar after revealing she tries to live by the motto “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.”

“There are loads of mottos. There’s, ‘Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels’. That’s one of them. You try and remember, but it never works,” she told fashion news website WWD.

Similar phrases can be found on pro-anorexia websites such as Starving For Control. It boasts the slogan “nothing tastes as good as thin feels.” TheImproper is purposely withholding the website’s addrress.

The 35-year-old British beauty, who has a seven-year-old daughter, Lila Grace, has is being accused of encouraging young people to develop eating disorders.

Dr Anthea Fursland, a psychologist who specializes in treating eating disorders, told the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper: “The term is used in anorexia websites to reinforce to themselves and each other to pursue thinness.

“I think it could have quite a large impact having someone so famous saying that. She is just giving credence to a belief that we are trying to move away from. If they’re at the cusp and feeling vulnerable, that might send them back into the pursuit of thinness,” she added.

Model Katie Green, who launched the “Say No To Size Zero” campaign in the UK earlier this year, also blasted Kate’s remarks, warning that websites that encourage eating disorders will “go crazy” over her comments, believing she supports their cause.

“There are 1.1 million eating disorders in the UK alone. Kate Moss’s comments are likely to cause many more,” she charged.

“If you read any of the pro-anorexia websites they go crazy for quotes like these.”

Model weight is a major source of controversy in the fashion industry.

The issue has long haunted the industry going back to the 1990s when the waif look swept fashion and helped launched models such as Moss. But in recent years, even those standards of thinness no longer seem to apply.

The latest to come under scrutiny is Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr but for the opposite reason. She was photographed recently looking “shockingly” thin.

The controversy over Kerr’s emaciated look comes less than a week after the fashion industry was rocked by another scandal over model Filippa Hamilton, 23.

A veteran of dozens of fashion campaigns and magazine covers, Hamilton was allegedly fired by fashion house Ralph Lauren for being too fat. She is 5′10″ tall and weighs 120 pounds, measurements that she says are essentially unchanged since she was 15.

The scandal also engulfed Czech supermodel Karolina Kurkova in 2008. She was blasted by the Brazilian press for appearing on the runway in a bikini with back fat, love handles and cellulite.
