Karlie Kloss details the whirlwind life of a rising model in the Australian edition of Vogue. It was one of four or five fashion shoots in a week, but it stands out because she loved the clothes. “I got to be a beautiful lady that day,” she says.

“The clothes were very classic and sophisticated and sexy,” she tells the magazine. “There was this exquisite Alexander McQueen dress that had all these frills and layers. It was incredible. That was probably one of my favorites of all the dresses I’ve ever worn.”

The 19-year-old model, who gives new meaning to the term zero body fat, is all-American. She was born in Chicago and grew up in St. Louis, with four sisters. She studied ballet and still has a dancer’s body. She turn heads in fashion circles with her stunning nude spread in Vogue Italia.

But it’s all in a day’s work, she tells the magazine. “That’s the fun thing about my job. What I enjoy most is that every day I get to play a new character,” she says.

Her height, she’s 6’1″ tall, long limbs, arched eyebrows and ready pout vaulted her onto the fashion scene when she was 15. She debuted in 2007 in Teen Vogue and did more than 70 runway shows.

Oddly, fashion wasn’t her top priority growing up. “I was doing sports and dance, I couldn’t have really cared less about what I was wearing,” she says.

Christy Turlington is among her style icons, “not only for what she wears but for who she is and what she does,” Kloss explains. “It’s the kind of enduring look that will stand the test of time.”

Kloss shows off her cool sophistication for the March cover shoot in front of Kai Z Feng’s cameras. She wears spring pastels from Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, Rodarte and Chanel, all styled by fashion editor Naomi Smith.
