Ali Lohan, the kid sister of actress Lindsay Lohan, has been under scrutiny over her weight ever since she decided to make a stab at a modeling career. But her weight may be the least of her problems, careerwise.

At 5’8″ tall, she’s a bit on the short side to get runway work, where a gaunt look is desired. There are exceptions; Kate Moss is 5’7″ tall. But she’s no Kate Moss, who came up during a different era.

Runway models today typically are at least 5’9″ tall, with most seemingly in the 5’10” range or taller.

The hand-wringing over Ali’s weight has been going on for more than six months, with every new paparazzi photograph that captures her bird-thin legs and tiny waist.

Her new agency, Next Models, released several new photos of her this past week and touched off another round of speculation. Does she or doesn’t she have an eating disorder.

One recent trend among tabloid web sites is to round up “medical experts” who render a diagnosis based on examining a photograph. What kind of quackery is that?

“She is very underweight. By looking at her cheekbones you can tell she has muscle wasting going on,” Dr. Majid Ali, told based on a photograph. “I’m unsure how she is losing weight but she has the look of someone who may binge and purge plus calorie restrict,” Dr. Ali said.

Of course, he’s never even met, much less treated Lohan.

Ali, alas, has one strike against her.

Sister Lindsay’s spate of bad behavior also included dramatic weight loss at one point, automatically leading to the assumption that Ali is up to the same stunts for publicity.

For her part, Ali says everything is cool, and her momager Dina Lohan is defensive about her weight. The question is why is Ali even bothering with the look when her height will keep her off most runways.
