Will Ferrell is back as newsman Ron Burgundy in Ancorman 2.

If you love Will Ferrell get ready for “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.” He does his shtick in a new trailer as newsman Ron Burgundy, a slightly self-infatuated “media star.” Oh… it’s ten years on and they’re rockin the ’80s.

Ferrell has turned out to be the Jerry Lewis of our time. Either you love him, or you find his infantile brand of humor annoying.

It’s hard to see why he choose to do a sequel of his original “Anchorman” film. It had a respectable outing at the box office, but it was no blockbuster. It’s racked up a $90 million gross against an estimated $26 million production budget.

In contrast, “Elf,” his 2003, hit earned $220 million at the box office, against a $33 million production budget. Now that’s money. Even 2006’s “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” a send-up of stock car racing, which had to have limited its appeal, earned $163 million

Be that as it may, Ferrell is back with his news team, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Christina Applegate. They’re taking on a decade that gave us Cabbage Patch Kids, Pac-Man, leg warmers, the Rubik’s Cube, waterbeds, big hair and, of course, cable news.

Burgundy is washed up, but 24-hour cable news gives him a second shot at fame and salon hair. The team reassembles in New York, where vanity knows no bounds.

Footnote: The movie will have a slew of celebrity cameos, including Tina Fey, Harrison Ford, Will Smith, Nicole Kidman and Kanye West.
