She plays heroine Beatrice Prior in the film adaptation of Veronica Roth’s hugely popular book by the same name.
Prior lives in a dystopian future world were people are subjected to tests to determine their place in society. But every so often, the test finds someone who is “divergent,” that is, doesn’t seem to fit in any category.
Those people are deemed highly dangerous to society and become outcasts who are eventually hunted and eliminated. When Prior’s divergence is discovered she goes underground and discovers a secret army of equally divergent individuals who are planning to fight for their right to survive.
The movie also stars Theo James, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller and Kate Winslet.
Woodley, 21, won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female and was nominated for a Golden Globe as a supporting actress for her breakout role in “The Descendants.” She also won critical acclaim for he role in comedy-drama “The Spectacular Now.”
She’s also slated to play the lead role as Hazel Grace Lancaster in the upcoming film adaptation of John Green’s novel “The Fault in Our Stars.”
