Olsen, 24, lived in the shadows of her high-profile sisters growing up in Los Angeles. They started acting as todlers.
But Elizabeth has deliberately taken a more intellectual approach to her acting career, instead of the more commercial path taken by her sisters. They starred mainly in television sit-coms and commercials before switching to fashion careers.
She had small roles in her sisters’ television show and a couple of their movies. But for the most part, she was content to stay in the wings on set, observing and learning.

Although she was destined to act–she took singing and ballet lessons from an early age–she decided to pursue classical acting experience and left Los Angeles for New York City.
She studied at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and spent a semester in Moscow at the Moscow Art Theatre School. The effort paid off.
Elizabeth scored critical acclaim for her acting in the 2011 film, “Martha Marcy May Marlene.” She played a cult survivor who returns home, suffering from delusions and paranoia.
She now has the luxury of hand-picking roles and has starred in indie films like this year’s “Kill Your Darlings,” summer blockbuster “Godzilla” and mega-franchise “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” due in 2015.
“Sometimes Mary-Kate and Ashley would ask me to take part in their scenes,” she tells the magazine. “They would put me in front of the cameras and fill my hair with chewing gum!”
But her sights were set on more serious roles. “My ideal has always been Diane Keaton in “Io,” “Annie” and “Manhattan,” she says. “But I was too young; I couldn’t do anything but prepare myself and wait.”
But she’s more than ready now. In her Vogue spread, she wears Moschino, Dior, Christian Louboutin, Chanel and other haute couture brands for top fashion photographer Tom Munro.
