Andy Serkis reprises Caesar the ape in the upcoming ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. He looks none too happy.
The movie is a follow-up to 2011’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” a taut, well-acted movie that was a surprise blockbuster, grossing $482 million worldwide.
Directed by Rupert Wyatt and starring James Franco, Freida Pinto and Serkis, the movie was a reboot of the campy 1970s “Planet of the Apes” movies. There were five in all, plus a Tim Burton remake in 2001.
This time around, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” is being directed by Matt Reeves with Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke and Keri Russell. Judy Greer, Terry Notary and Karin Konoval will play apes.
The special effects alone, make the movie worth watching. As for the plot, the picture picks up where “Rise” left off.
Caesar and his genetically altered intelligent cohorts have escaped to the dense forests around San Francisco. The human population is devastated by a deadly virus.
Human survivors see the apes as a threat, and their uneasy co-existence starts to break down as the apes grow more powerful and assert themselves as the dominant species.
The trailer opens with scenes of a devastated San Francisco as a voiceover exhorts humans to take on the apes. A fierce looking Ceasar looks ready to rumble.
