KateHudson-NineKate Hudson was one of the girls of summer, joining Yankees wives to cheer the team — and boyfriend Alex Rodriguez — on to the World Championship, and what did she get out of it: a reputation for being “needy,” she complains.

Hudson’s doing the talk show circuit to promote her new film “Nine,” and reluctantly dishing on the hot third baseman.

The Hollywood actress, who has a five-year-old son Ryder with ex-husband Chris Robinson, says she gets exasperated by the constant speculation over her private life and insists she is far from demanding as a girlfriend.

“I can’t go two months without being pregnant, engaged, or breaking up because I’m too needy, which is always the one they love. I’m not needy. You kind of have to laugh it off, but it can kind of screw up other things around it,” she says.

She appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman Thursday night (Dec. 10) and was pestered by the talk-show host’s nosey questions about her relationship with Rodriguez.

“You’re a big Yankees fan, and you’re friends with Alex Rodriguez,” Letterman opened. Hudson giggled and said, “Yeah, he’s a friend of mine. Nice guy.”

Hudson could hardly get a word in edgewise about the movie. How did they meet? Letterman asked.

“Can’t we talk about the holidays?” Hudson said.

“So is he a nice guy?” Dave continued

“Yeah, he’s a nice guy,” said Hudson finally surrendering. “You just can’t help yourself! You just can’t! I knew it was going to come at some point!”

The actress says she finds it annoying that she can’t be pictured with a guy without being romantically linked to him. “If I walk out on the street with any man, I’m dating him.

“I’ve been dating two of my best friends from high school who are like girls to me,” she recently told Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

“I have a child, and there are people involved, and it’s unfair to talk about somebody else, especially when you’re not in that place yet to be discussing those things.”

“His game changed when you started showing up regularly at ball games,” Hudson responded.

“It was a really fun summer,” adding that the Yankees winning the World Series – an achievement for which Rodriguez received accolades – “was awesome!”
