Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) is the catalyst behind the “Guardians of the Galaxy.” But who knew? Not Peter, according to a new Marvel featurette. He was a young boy when he jetted into space, his fate unknown.

Marvel released the latest clip today (July 19) to shed some light on the movie’s central character.

“I was only a kid when I left earth. I had no idea what the universe had in store for me,” says Quill in a voice over as the featurette opens.

The scene shows a young Quill kneeling on the ground as a gigantic space ship hovers over him.

Pratt narrates the featurette, explaining what drew him to the role. “Peter Quill is the only human in this world, traveling through space, getting to do whatever he wants,” he says.

Quill is part conman, part bluster. He boasts about coming from a “planet of outlaws,” meaning Earth! To prove it, he reels off some well-known outlaws, Billy the Kid, Bonnie and Clyde… and actor John Stamos?

Oh well… he still makes an impression on his notorious comrades.

“Sounds like a place I’d like to visit,” says Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista).

In the movie, the Guardians are all rogues. Quill makes an alliance with the misfits, Gamora, Rocket, Drax and Groot, after he finds out the orb he’s stolen possesses galaxy-destroying power.

The cast includes Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio del Toro.

The film hits theaters in regular, 3D and IMAX on Aug. 1. In the meantime, check out the trailer below and be sure to follow TheImproper on Twitter for the latest movie news.
