Rob has been searching post-“Twilight” for roles that take him in different places, and “The Rover” has taken him the farthest yet.
He shot the picture with actor Guy Pearce in the harsh Australian outback, where temperatures can soar to 120F. He said afterward that the desolation and harsh conditions changed him as an actor.
“The Rover” is set in the not-to-distant future. Civil order has broken down and gangs roam freely scavenging off the land. Simple things like a car and personal belongings are critically important.
Pearce’s character, Eric, is a violent and bitter loner. A former Australian soldier, he’s lost his farm and his family. He’s attacked by a gang that includes Rey (Pattinson) and his brother.
In the ensuing fight, Rey is left for dead and the gang flees with Eric’s few remaining possessions and his prized car. Determined to get them back, Eric patches up Rey and enlists him to help track down the gang.
Their journey is one of self-discovery and comradeship as the navigate the harsh desert and face multiple dangers.
The film was released in New York City and Los Angeles in June before expanding nationwide later in the month.
The title will be released on Sept. 23. But if it’s like any of Rob’s previous releases it will go fast. You can pre-order it now by clicking the link above.
