Kidman, 47, has been an A-list star since her breakout role in the 1989 thriller “Dead Calm.”
But that doesn’t mean she hasn’t lived through her own personal hell, namely her 1990-to-2001 marriage to Cruise, the devout Scientology member.
“Now I have the ability to go, ‘Okay, this too shall pass,’” she tells the magazine, published online by Net-a-Porter, a fashion site.
“Sometimes you’ve just got to navigate through pain and depression. Maybe you have a down day, but life is contrast. I’d rather feel it and know it,” she says.
Kidman can be philosophical about it now. She’s been in a solid marriage to Australian country singer Keith Urban since 2006.
Urban dedicated a song to Kidman on their wedding anniversary this year, causing some of her friends to feign jealously, she says.
“I had two girlfriends sitting with me and they were like, ‘B*tch!’” she says “I went, ‘Hey! I’ve been to hell and back!’”
She credits the strength of her marriage to their late meeting in life, after both had been through painful periods.
“Keith always says, ‘We’re lucky we met late in life,'” she says.
“The sadness of that is we can’t have six kids together. But the greatest of that is [we are done] with all the other stuff, so now we are totally present for this.”
For the fashion shoot, Kidman poses for photographer Steven Pan, wearing Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and DKNY styled by Simon Robins.
