Cara Delevingne, the UK model and wannabe screen actress, debuts in a new trailer for her upcoming movie “Paper Towns,” and looks like she never left the runway. She’s emotionless in a role that should be charged with emotion.

Delevingne, 22, plays Margo Roth Spiegelman, who grows up in a small town pursued by Quentin “Q” Jacobsen (Nat Wolff) who falls in love with her in grade school.

Speigelman doesn’t know Quentin is alive until one night when they are in high school. She shows up at his window with a plot to exact revenge on her boyfriend for cheating. Quentin, who is totally smitten, goes along.

The next morning, Margo disappears. Q is determined to find her and embarks on a trek with friends that turns into a coming of age type adventure.

Delevingne certainly looks the part. She has an exotic otherworldly look that makes her character believable. But if they new trailer is any guide, she sleep-walks through the movie.

Author John Green, who wrote the book on which the movie is based, was reluctant to cast Delevingne at first. “When I heard she was auditioning, it was like, ‘No.’ Of course I thought that was crazy,” he said.

He probably should have trusted his instincts and went with an actress who could pull off the part a little more convincingly.

The last movie based on one of his books, “The Fault in Our Stars,” featured Shailene Woodley, who brought a depth to her character that Delevingne doesn’t quite reach.

Of course, Green is gushing about the actress-turned model, now. “She understood Margo in ways that no one I have ever met understands Margo,” he said.

Delevingne brings a certain marquee value to the picture, although she’s not that well known in the United States. But it’s hard to see how this film will match “Fault.”
