Kristen Stewart is having more impact on the sequel to her 2012 film “Snow White and the Huntsman” than she ever did in the original. A new trailer for the follow up, “The Huntsman: Winter’s War” introduces new cast members in what amounts to a prequel, not a sequel.

They are joined by Emily Blunt who plays the queen’s sister Freya and Jessica Chastain, who plays the Huntsman’s long lost love Sara, a warrior princess.

Stewart’s role, Snow White, the lead character in the first film, has been written out of this picture. It wasn’t always planned that way.

“Snow White and the Huntsman” had a solid $396.6 million worldwide gross, which easily put it in line for a sequel. Kristen was supposed to star in the follow up with Rupert Sanders returning as director.

But the two were caught up in a cheating scandal that began during filming. It spilled over into the summer of 2012 until they were exposed by a tabloid photographer.

The affair cost Stewart her relationship with Robert Pattinson and ended Sanders’ 12-year marriage to UK model Liberty Ross.

Both Stewart and Sanders were dropped from the sequel. Instead, Universal turned the follow-up into a prequel with Hemsworth and Theron in the lead roles.

It appears that Stewart aced herself out of a big payday. Both Theron and Hemsworth are getting $10 million for their roles, according to the trade press.

But has Universal aced Kristen’s fan base from seeing the film? It remains to be seen how fans will react to the slight.

The new movie has little to do with the Grimm fairy tale on which the first movie was based. It focuses instead on a rivalry between Ravenna and Freya, who fled the kingdom after her heart was broken by a lover.

Freya has the power to freeze anything and banishes herself to a remote icy kingdom. She raises an army that includes Sara and the Huntsman, but they betray her by falling in love.

Freya returns to the kingdom to confront Ravenna, launching a war between two dark forces, unless the Huntsman can save the day, according to the movie’s Web site.

The 2:35 clip provides the first look at Freya and Sara and a brief hint at the plot.

“The Huntsman: Winter’s War” will be released on April 22, 2016.
