Caesar could use a few lessons from Sun Tzu, who wrote the book on warfare, when a crazed military colonel goes after his tribe of intelligent apes in a new trailer for the upcoming “War for the Planet of the Apes.”

The latest ape movie is the third in a series that began with the 2011 reboot of the 1968 original “Planet of the Apes,” starring Charlton Heston.

In the latest installment, Caesar, played by Andy Serkis, finds himself under attack by a well-armed pack of humans led by none other than Woody Harrelson as a crazed colonel.

Harrelson has an uncanny knack for worming his way into almost every recent dystopian science fiction blockbuster, from the “Hunger Games” to an upcoming “Star Wars” movie.

In any event, he adds his own brand of crazy to the latest apes picture. The crazy colonel has to dig deep to wage war. “There are times when it is necessary to abandon your humanity to save humanity,” he says in the trailer.

But Caesar has to dig deeper. He wrestles with his own dark instincts to pull off the survival of his pack of Mensa apes.

Their epic battle that will determine the fate of both of their species and the future of the planet, according to the movie synopsis.

Here’s some advice from Sun Tzu: “To know your Enemy, you must become your Enemy.”

But hey, that’s what started the problem in the first place!

Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval, Judy Greer and Terry Notary also star. Matt Reeves directs.

The trailer was released this morning (Mar. 30) along with a new poster (see above0 at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Fox vice chairman and president of production Emma Watts did the honors.

It hits theaters. July 14, in the middle of summer blockbuster season.
