Netflix, the subscription television channel, is exploding in May with original programming, an arena where it’s becoming a major force–and source of work for Hollywood actors, challenging both cable premium channels and movie theaters.
In all, the channel plans to air 25 original shows, including series, specials, movies and documentaries.
Familiar programs like “Scandal” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” will also be returning with new episodes.
The streaming service will also debut regular theater attractions like Pixar’s Coco, Mamma Mia!, The 40-Year-Old Virgin.
The kickoff will start May 1 with 30 shows, including movie-going fare like “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay,” “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” and
“High School Musical 3: Senior Year.”
Among Netflix originals, “A Little Help with Carol Burnett,” will debut May 4, along with “Busted!: Season 1,” “Dear White People: Volume 2” and the original movie “Forgive Us Our Debts.”
Another must-see show will be “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman.” He’ll be interviewing Tina Fey.
Later in the month (May 11), the streaming channel will air Season 2 of “Bill Nye Saves the World” and the Netflix original, “Evil Genius: the True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist.”
