With “Valentine’s Day” touching just about every conceivable demographic — from Julia Roberts forty-somethings to Taylor Swift teens — Director Gary Marshall is leaving nothing to chance with his new romantic comedy, so, considered it cotton candy.
The film is sickly sweet take on the travails of romance among intertwining couples, who live and work in Los Angeles. Expect a lot of break-ups and make-ups based on the pressures and expectations of Valentine’s Day.
As many forlorn lovers know, the holiday can be stressful and prone to inducing depression. Whether Marshall’s flick lifts spirits or turns them darker remains to be seen.
The new trailer targets the younger end of the demographic, featuring country singer Taylor Swift and “New Moon” hottie Taylor Lautner. The first trailer showcased the grown ups: Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Biel and Jessica Alba.
But wait, that’s only half the cast. The film also includes Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Garner, Patrick Dempsey, Emma Roberts, Ashton Kutcher and Topher Grace. Call it the Hollywood full-employment film.
Adding to the hype is the rumored romance between the two Taylors. The new trailer seems acutely tuned into the tabloids on that score.
The two Taylors get cozy on a football field, while Kutcher narrates. In another scene, Biel, Garner and a bunch of ladies throw an “I Hate Valentine’s Day” party, so bitterness will definitely be part of this stew.
Hot rumor: the film supposedly has a gay sub-plot, which is detectable in the trailer if you watch it closely.
