Robert Pattinson never had much in common with Edward Cullen, the dreamy vampire he plays in the blockbuster “Twilight” series but there are some commonalities between the two. Robert says he’s a possessive boyfriend and a bit of a loner just like Edward.

“There’s not too many similarities between Edward and me,” says Rob. “But I’m quite similar in his bad points: I’m quite possessive and a bit of a loner.”

Pattinson, who made the statement while he was in Vancouver filming “Twilight: New Moon,” was involved in a four-year relationship with Kristen Stewart.

They broke amid Kristen’s cheating scandal with “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders. They’ve since gone their own ways.

Kristen has been dating women exclusively since they split, while Rob was involved in a long-term relationship with performance artist Tahliah Barnett, better known professionally as FKA Twigs.

They broke up last year, and Rob hasn’t been linked with anyone seriously since.

Rob skyrocketed to international superstardom thanks to the vampire romance’s global popularity. But the single Rob says he’s still the same person he was before Twi’s astonishing worldwide success.

“In my head, I don’t think I’ve changed much at all [since Twilight became a hit],” says Pattinson. That’s a sentiment echoed by those who know Rob well.

“He’s the best person all of this could ever happen to,” says Rob’s close friend Bobby Long, a British musician. “It would never affect Robert the wrong way.”

Similarly, Pattinson’s co-stars agree that the British heartthrob has remained as modest and down-to-earth as ever. “He’s such a humble guy,” says Kellan Lutz, who plays Emmett Cullen in Twilight. “I’m very impressed with him.”

Twi’s unexpected mainstream popularity has made Rob an overnight sensation. But the London native finds his newfound star status overwhelming at times.

“I’m a bit of a loner and not that good with dealing with loads of people,” says Pattinson. “Most of the time, going out is a complete waste of time. I’d rather stay in and create something than go out.”

The introspective Rob–who plays piano and guitar and composes music–is a bit of a workaholic. “I’m not very good at relaxing,” he said February during a video interview in Japan. “I don’t like relaxing; I like working.”

That’s good, since Pattinson has a heavy work schedule for the next two years. Right now, Rob’s in Vancouver shooting New Moon. After that wraps, he’ll begin shooting Eclipse, the third installment in the Twi book series. And in between will be a hectic promotional schedule for both sequels.
