Downtown New York meets Beverly Hills in Jim Jarmusch’s new trailer for zombie film “The Dead Don’t Die.” The comedy flick features Selena Gomez, Bill Murray, Chloë Sevigny, Tilda Swinton and the king of hipsters Iggy Pop.
But the list of bold face names doesn’t end there.
Adam Driver, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosie Perez, Iggy Pop, Sara Driver, RZA, Carol Kane, Austin Butler, Luka Sabbat and Tom Waits. also make appearances.
Jarmusch’s biggest accomplishment may not be the film, but how he got so many cool, aging actors to appear in it. See if you can spot them in the trailer!
The only actors missing are Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis and Woody Harrelson, of course.
Harrelson, by far, holds the record for appearances in off-beat science fiction, fantasy and zombie films. It’s a shame he couldn’t make this one.
The plot unfolds in the small rural town of Centerville, where not much of anything ever happens. Until, that is, ghouls spring from the town cemetery to terrorize the local folks.
The job of rounding them up belongs to local police Chief Cliff Robertson (Murray) and his sidekick, Officer Ronald Peterson (Driver). Sevigny rounds out the police force.
The three bespectacled police officers and a strange Scottish undertaker must band together to turn the undead back into the dead, according to a film synopsis.
Judging from the trailer, it looks like Murray deadpans his way through the film (no pun intended, well maybe).
After zombies take out a couple of waitresses at the local diner, wild animals get the blame. But not for long. Officer Peterson–Driver’s Barney Fife to Murray’s Andy of Mayberry–puts two-and-two together.
‘I’m thinking zombies,” he says. “You know, the undead, ghouls.”
Swinton plays an eccentric undertaker who turns out to be an expert on the dead and a killer swordswoman.
They blast and chop their way through the hordes.
Murray is no stranger to horror-comedy films. He appeared in the 2009 flick “Zombieland.” Yep, Woody Harrelson was in that one.
In fact, he’s doing back-to-back zombie films. He’s also appearing this year’s “Zombieland: Double Tap.” The post-apocalyptic zombie comedy film directed by Ruben Fleischer, is a sequel to “Zombieland.”
And, yep, Woody Harrelson is in that one. He reprises his role as an undead hunter Tallahassee.
Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin reprise their roles. Zoey Deutch, Avan Jogia, Rosario Dawson, Thomas Middleditch, and Luke Wilson join the cast.
Incidentially, Rosario appears in both films as well.
The Sony Pictures release will hit theaters first on June 14.
“Zombieland: Double Tap” is scheduled to be released on Oct 11, which happens to be the 10th anniversary of the original film’s release.
