Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Aziz Asari and Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer united in “30 Minutes or Less,” another bawdy action comedy filled with sophomoric jokes, free-flowing expletives and a whacked out plot, according to a new trailer.
The movie is in the same vein as McBride’s recent turn in “Your Highness,” with Natalie Portman and James Franco. That movie is set in the Middle Ages, but the shtick is the same.
The new R-rated “red band” trailer sets up the premise for the plot. Oddly, it’s loosely based on the the scary 2003 “Collar Bomb Case.”
An Erie, Pa., man robbed a bank and when he was confronted by police he said he’d been coerced into the stick-up by the real robbers, who had fastened a remote bomb around his neck.
The police didn’t believe him which led to a stand off. As the man pleaded for help to remove the bomb, it exploded and he died.
Nothing funny about that. But screen writers Matthew Sullivan and Michael Diliberti put a decidedly different spin on “30 Minutes or Less.”
Dwayne (McBride and partner Travis (Nick Swardson) kidnap a pizza delivery driver (Eisenberg) and strap him with a suicide bomber vest.
He’s told to rob a bank so Dwayne can raise the money to pay for a hit on his father. Pizza boy has eight hours to do the job to avoid detonating the vest.
“Twilight” hunk Taylor Lautner will have a cameo role in the film.
Ben Stiller, through his production company, Red Hour Films, produced.
The film opens Aug. 12. Check out the trailer below.
