Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig team up with Director David Fincher in a 21st century film noir style remake of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” Judging by a new leaked red-band trailer, it’s sure to be a shocker.

The film is based on the late Stieg Larsson’s international best-selling crime series “Millennium Trilogy.” Swedish actress Noomi Rapace defined the role of heroine Lisbeth Salander in three Swedish Dragon films.

Mara has been tapped to fill her shoes and goes through a stunning transformation to play the nihilistic, goth, avenging angel, in the remake.

The new version’s three central characters are Daniel Craig as investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist, Robin Wright as magazine editor Erika Berger and Christopher Plummer as businessman and nemisis Henrik Vanger.

Salander is a wealthy, antisocial, but extremely intelligent woman, with a photographic memory.

She is skilled at computers and the Internet and works as a private investigator and researcher, with a specialty in tracking down people.

Among its dark themes, the books explore sexual violence, corporate corruption and latent Nazism in Swedish society.

Mara, 25, brings an unlikely background to the role. She is a child of privilege and wealth, related to both the Rooney Family, which owns the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Mara Famiy, owners of the New York Giants football team.

But she showed she has the look down in a series of photographs in latest issue of fashion title W magazine.

She’s dressed in character posing on a motorcycle in dark eye make up, with jet black hair in a short choppy cut. She’s wearing a white vest top with her leather trousers pulled down below her butt.

A tattoo artist busily works on her hip.

In addition to dye job and haircut, Mara said she had her eyebrows bleached, her lip, brow, nose, and nipple pierced, and four piercings in her ears.

‘I didn’t even have pierced ears,” she said in an interview. “They put four holes in each ear, and, weirdly, that hurt the most.”

Judging from the trailer, the movie will be fast paced, violent and dark, dark, dark, a la Fincher’s “Fight Club” and “Se7en.”

The film is set to hit theaters on December 21st. Check out the trailer below.
