Jenna Malone has a long “indie” movie resume and extends her art house cred into fashion with a high-concept photo shoot in S magazine. The art book shows Jena mixing fashion with various stages of undress.
While the 26-year-old has been in more than a dozen movies, she only really broke out of the pack with her last film, “Sucker Punch,” an ensemble picture that included a virtual Who’s Who of Young Hollywood.
She acted beside Emily Browning as Babydoll, Abbie Cornish as Sweet Pea, Vanessa Hudgens as Blondie and Jamie Chung as Amber. Jena played Rocket.
The action-fantasy film is about a group of young woman who are committed to a mental institution who dip in and out of a fanatasy world while plotting their escape.
Malone’s role was secondary to Browning and Cornish, but she was a standout in the cast, although the film ultimately flopped.
She launched her career when she was only 12 in 1996, appearing in the film “Bastard Out of Carolina,” by Showtime Networks and directed by Anjelica Huston. Jennifer Jason Leigh starred in the movie.
A year later, she was nominated for a Golden Globe, for Best Actress in a Mini-Series or TV Movie, for her role in TV movie, “Hope,” about a young girl’s struggle to reveal the truth behind some dark family secrets.
She didn’t have much of a family growing up. Raised by a single mother, she moved 27 times by the age of nine, finally settling in Los Angeles. She filed for emancipation from her mother in 2000.
She next stars in “Jack and Diane,” a sexy violent thriller that revolves around two young women who hook up one night in New York City.
They also just happen to be werewolves.
Juno Temple plays Diane, Riley Keough plays Jack and Jena plays Susan and pop singer Kylie Minogue also appears as Tara.
