Andy Serkis as Caesar the ape introduces a new extended trailer for the upcoming movie, “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.” Seems almost fitting since this is the movie where the apes come to power.
Some of the scenes may be familiar because they have appeared in previous teasers and trailers, but there is more footage of Caesar’s relationship with scientist Will Rodman (James Franco) and his father played by John Lithgow.
The dynamic between the chimp and Rodman’s father is touching. As his Alzheimer’s advances, Caesar becomes more protective.
Of note is Caesar’s totally convincing look, which makes the previous ape movie special effects seem like Halloween costumes by comparison.
WETA Digital in Wellington, New Zealand, is applying the special effects technology.
It won an Academy Award for creating the fantasy world and characters in James Cameron’s groundbreaking movie “Avatar.”
The original film starred Charlton Heston, Kim Hunter, Maurice Evans, James Whitmore, James Daly and Linda Harrison.
It was released by 20th Century Fox and only cost $5.8 million to make. The sets were primitive and ape society was limited to late 19th century technology.
The new movie will hit the big screen on Aug. 11.
