Sean Hayes, Will Sasso and Chris Diamantopoulos tackle The Three Stooges, one of the most endearing and iconic comedy trios of the early 20th Century, in a new film by the Farrelly brothers.
The film’s first trailer has just been released with Sean (from Will & Grace) as Larry, Will as Curly and Chris as Moe.
The Farrellys also enlist an all-star cast that includes Larry David, Jennifer Hudson, Jane Lynch from “Glee,” Snooki from “Jersey Shore” and smoldering Sofia Vergara.
But the plot has been updated from the Stooges’ 1930s heyday to sometime in the present.
Moe, Larry, and Curly inadvertently stumble into a murder plot and end up starring in a reality TV show, while trying to save their childhood orphanage.
The Farrelly brothers produced, directed and co-wrote the script with Mike Cerrone.
They basically transplant the Stooges and their physical, slapstick humor to the present day. They don’t even change their ’30s style clothes.
It’s as if the Stooges are transported from their less politically correct time to the present and turned loose to send up our modern uptight society.
It’s too hard to tell from the trailer whether the Farrelly brothers take advantage of that, or just go for the short money with a lot of sight gags and head banging.
Either way it could be good fun. Check out the trailer below. The film is scheduled for release in April 2012.
