Will Smith jumps to the fourth dimension in hot pursuit of extraterrestrials in the latest “Men In Black 3” trailer. Tommy Lee Jones is also back as Agent K, while Josh Brolin takes over his role as a young Agent K in a new time jumping sequence.

The first two “Men in Black” films, based on the comic book series by Lowell Cunningham, originally published by Marvel Comics, have been runaway hits.

The first film, released in 1997, grossed $587 million worldwide compared with a $90 million budget; the second, 2002 film has grossed $251.4 million.

No wonder Columbia Pictures is eager to crank out a sequel, although the film has gone through a difficult birthing process. The Barry Sonnenfield-directed film was first announced in 2009 and has gone through several script rewrites.

The film also includes Emma Thompson as Agent O and Nicole Scherzinger, who plays a love interest to Smith’s character, Agent J.

The trailer opens with a voice-over question: “Who are we?”

Then it flashes through a series of scenes showing all those crazy weapons and aliens roaming the streets of New York intermixed with shots of Smith and Jones.

Check it out below. The film, which is also being shot in 3-D and IMAX 3-D, opens May 25th, 2012.
