The Walt Disney Co. is embracing 3D flims after the success of the “Lion King in 3D.” Disney just released a new trailer for it’s latest 3D release, “Finding Nemo,” an Oscar winning animation that broke box office records.

Disney has released 22 films using various 3D technologies since 2005. But the process is becoming more popular. Beside theaters, wide-screen televisions are now being produced with 3D capability. But movie selections so far have been limited.

The film company is handling the conversion of its films through its brand Disney Digital 3-D. “The Lion King” was released last year and pulled in more than $160 million at the box office. “Beauty and the Beast 3D” will hit US theaters this weekend (Jan. 13).

Finding Nemo is one of the company’s most successful animated features. It won the Best Animated Feature Oscar among its four nominations when it was initially released in 2003. It finished the year as the second highest grossing picture with an $867.6 million box office, according to deadlinehollywood.

The Pixar classic stars Albert Brooks, Ellen DeGeneres and Alexander Gould. Marlin and Dory search for Marlin’s son Nemo and face a number of challenges along the way. Nemo, you may recall is unexpectedly snatched and lands in a dentist’s fish tank.

As the two fish continue on their journey, encountering numerous dangers, Dory’s optimism continually forces Marlin to find the courage to take risks and overcome his fears. Marlin gains the ability to trust and believe, like Dory, that things will work out in the end, according to the film’s official snyopsis.

Confronting seabirds, sewer systems, and even man himself, father and son’s fateful separation ends in triumph. And the once-fearful Marlin becomes a true hero in the eyes of his son, and the entire ocean.

The film was brilliant and colorful in its original format, so taking it 3D should really make it pop. The 3D version of the film will be released nationwide Sept 14. Check out the trailer below.
