Elizabeth Banks is painted in lavender and purple hues as Effie Trinket in the upcoming film “The Hunger Games.” Studio Lionsgate offered up a photo of her in constume, the latest in a series of teases for the picture.
Banks’ character is an adviser to Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, and Peeta, played by Josh Hutcherson. They are competing in the deadly Hunger Games.
The movie is based on the “Hunger Games” trilogy by Suzanne Collins, which has been printed in 26 different languages and sold in 38 countries. Of course, romance is neatly rolled into the package. Peeta reveals on-air his long-time love for Katniss, who joins the games in place of her sister Primrose.
Banks sees a positive message in the film despite it’s deadly focus. “The Hunger Games” is so timely because it’s about the overthrow of a totalitarian society and I’m pretty sure that’s what’s happening worldwide right now,” she told The HuffingtonPost.
“To me the message of ‘The Hunger Games’ is that revolution can come from one person, an act of kindness by one person. I think it’s really important to tell kids that they matter, that individuals matter, and that everyone counts, and that to me is the message of “The Hunger Games.” That’s what I hope kids take away from it,” she added.
“Effie has a really theatrical, over-the-top, completely not me look to her. I’m very excited for people to see my portrayal. I have no idea if people are going to be into it. I hope they are.”
“The Hunger Games” debuts March 23rd. Lionsgate is betting big on the franchise. It’s already announced that “Catching Fire,” the second movie in the trilogy will be released on Nov. 22, 2013.
