Williams won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for the Weinstein Co. film, which also stars Emma Watson, Dominic Cooper, Dougray Scott and Kenneth Branagh.
Both Monroe and Williams have had tragic love affairs, and the Hollywood star talks about her relationship with the late Heath Ledger, who died of a drug overdose in 2008. She calls their first meeting “cosmic.”

“Our initial meeting, the circumstances of how we first met, were cosmic or something,” she said. Yeah, a lot of things happened at once. It’s a bit like: We had a lot of things to do, because we didn’t have a lot of time, or something.”
Michelle Williams: Marilyn Deserves More Respect
Although they had broken up by the time of his unexpected death, she was shattered by the tragedy. “It was making me crazy. I felt like I was going crazy,” she tells the magazine. “It was too much…trying to deal with what had happened and trying to deal with what was at our doorstep.”
Williams began dating the Australian actor after filming “Brokeback Mountain” together in 2004. A year later, they were expecting a child. Matilda Rose Ledger was born in 2005.
‘I just felt trapped. And it’s not just me… there’s somebody else who I’m trying to protect, and I can’t. I can’t make it stop, I can’t make it go away,” she adds.

“Trying to find ways to explain it, or shield her from it. It’s like you’re trying to go about your life, and make dinner,” Michelle says.
Williams picked up with her life, starring in such films as “Mammoth” (2009), with Gael García Bernal, Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island,” with Leonardo DiCaprio and the romantic drama “Blue Valentine,” with Ryan Gosling.
She says she’s never flaunted her sexuality. She exudes and innocence and vulnerability along with a smoldering sensuality. Lindsay Lohan recreated one of Monroe’s iconic photo spreads for Playboy. But Williams captures more of Monroe’s vulnerability.
“I wouldn’t say that that would be one of my first qualities as a human being… being sexy,” she says. “And I think because my character on Dawson’s Creek was sexy… sexualized… sexual,” she said.
“I saw all the negative attention and connotations that can come along with that. And that those things can keep people from seeing you clearly,” she adds.
She has no problem, however, meeting expectations with photographer Michael Thompson. She dons a platinum blonde wig, fire-engine red lipstick and poses in daring lingerie.
