Tommie James Wants Val Kilmer to Play Him in Movie

Kilmer-JamesVal Kilmer, who gained fame playing singer Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s movie, “The Doors,” is reportedly being eyed to tackle another music icon in a movie, singer Tommy James.

James was best known for songs like “Crimson & Clover,” and the proposed film would be based on his autobiography, “Me, The Mob And The Music.”

“We’ll be making a major announcement in about three weeks. One of the actors who’s being looked at seriously to play me is Val Kilmer,” James said on BlogTalkRadio. “He’s very musical and of course he can act and do anything.

“But probably, because of the huge time span of the book, which starts in the ’60s and ends in the ’90s, it may have to be two actors; a young Tommy and an older Tommy.”

Interest was sparked in a movie about James, who was lead singer for The Shondells when Martin Scorsese reportedly expressed an interest in the project, the singer said.

“We got the book deal in 2008 and within just a few weeks of that we were toying with doing a movie, and then, all of a sudden, we get a call from Martin Scorsese’s office,” James said.

“I was incredibly honored that he was interested in making the book in to a movie. It just fell out of heaven. He’s the only one who could do it justice because it’s a combination of rock ‘n’ roll and wise guys,” James said.

James spent most of his career at Roulette Records, which James said was actually a front for the Genovese mafia crime family.

James said his producing partners are hoping to release it by the end of 2011.
