The video debuted today (Feb. 14) Valentine’s Day on MTV. Swift picked up a couple of Grammy’s for her song “Mean” over the weekend, and keeps the momentum going with the release of clip.
In the video, Swift takes a solitary walk through a leafless forest deep in autumn slumber. She wears a long flowing cream-colored dress and her hair is straight past her shoulders. She walks gingerly and looks around warily as she sings the haunting tune.
The Civil Wars, composed of singer-songwriters Joy Williams and John Paul White, provide backup. Their debut album, Barton Hollow, was released last year. The duo won 2012 Grammy Awards for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Folk Album over the weekend.
The movie is based on the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, which has been printed in 26 different languages and sold in 38 countries.
The story focuses on Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), a 16-year-old who lives in post-Apocalyptic Panem. It’s a totalitarian state located where the United States once existed. Those in power keep the populace sated with a blood sport known as the Hunger Games.
The Hunger Games are part perverse entertainment for the masses and part government intimidation. In front of a nationally televised audience, a boy and a girl between 12 and 16 are chosen from each of 12 districts.
The are called “Tributes,” and must fight to the death in a large outdoor arena.
Lionsgate, which just bought “Twilight” studio Summit Entertainment,is hoping to score just as big with the action-adventure fantasy.
“The Hunger Games” debuts in theaters on March 23. Check out the video below:
