Now, they’re ready to return–in force. The intriguing film was screened at the Berlin Film Festival last week, and is headed to the South-By-Southwest film and music festival in Austin, Tx, in March.
Who would have the audacity to create such a film and then have the nerve to show it in Berlin, where Nazism remains a sensitive subject to this day? Would you believe Finland? The film was the talk of the festival, according to The Los Angeles Times.
“Science-fiction has been going around this idea for a long time — circling around Nazis in space. Why circle? Why don’t we just do Nazis in space?” said film Director Timo Vuorensola. He noted that Nazi Germany has been the model for evil empires from “Star Wars” to “Star Trek.”
“So this is taking that one step forward: Let’s just make it about Nazis!” he added. Vuorensola is known in Finland for singing in a metal band and a 2005 sci-fi film “Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning.” It never made it to general release, but can be downloaded from the Internet.
Ironically, or maybe not so much, Germany was the second leading source of funds for the $10 million film, he told The Times.
A friend came up with the plot from a dream during a sauna session. The Fins love their saunas.
