Chris Evans will be back as Captain America in a sequel to the summer blockbuster Captain America: First Avenger, but fans will have to wait until 2014 to see the film. Disney set the debut date today along with the release of a new photo.
“Captain America: The First Avenger” opened lat July 22 and scored solid numbers at the box office. The film grossed $369 million worldwide, enough to justify a sequel, considering the film cost $140 million to make and market.
It topped films like “Thor” and “Green Lantern,” as well as “X-Men: First Class.” Plus the film should get a nice boost from the release this summer of “The Avengers,” which combines all of the Marvel superheroes in one film.
In the sequel, Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, teams up again with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. The twist will be Rogers’ transport to modern times where he not have to fight evil doers but also decipher a digital world.
Marvel’s highly anticipated “The Avengers” hits theaters May 4.
