Sigourney Weaver and Robert De Niro lead a solid cast in the Rodrigo Cortes film “Red Lights,” which is featured in a spooky new trailer.
Cillian Murphy, Elizabeth Olsen, Toby Jones and Joely Richardson also star in the film about an investigator who debunks psychics.
Weaver plays a psychologist, Dr. Margaret Matheson, who with her assistant, studies paranormal activity. In most cases, the are easily able to prove that so-called psychics are frauds. But that’s before they encounter Simon Silver (De Niro), a world-renowned psychic.
Margaret had a brush with Silver 30 years ago when Silver attended to her comatose son. Silver dropped out of sight for an enigmatic 30 years, but emerges from his mysterious seclusion for a series of public appearances, provoking Margaret and her assistant Dr. Tom Buckley (Murphy), to go after him.
Silver, however, appears to be the real deal as the movie cascades through a series of explainable events that threaten to shatter the foundations of modern science.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to mixed reviews. The Hollywood Reporter called the film to long and ponderous toward the end and recommended some film editing before its released on the public.
It’s set for a July 13 release. Check out the trailer below:
