Andrew Garfield is shown in almost all his guises in a new international trailer for “The Amazing Spider-Man.” He goes from scrawny high-schooler to web-slinging vigilante, hotly pursued by his girlfriend’s police chief daddy played by Dennis Leary.

The clip also includes some flash-backs which help fill out Peter Parker’s back story and his own quest to find out who he is and how his destiny is tied to his father’s experiments.

The film is a ground-up reboot of the Spider-Man saga that is unconnected to the three previous films by Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. His love interest, Gwen Stacy, is played by Emma Stone, the daughter of Chief George Stacy.

The trailer, which runs almost two and a half minutes also provides some quick glimpses of Spider-Man nemesis, The Lizard, a monstrous incarnation of Dr. Curt Connors, a colleague of Peter Parker’s dad, played by Rhys Ifans.

From a tense sit-down with Gwen’s rancorous dad over dinner, to his ultimate confrontation with The Lizard, the clip showcases Spider-Man’s dilemma. The cops hate him like he’s a common criminal, and the criminals fear him.

The previous Spider-Man movies used the murder of Peter’s Uncle Ben during a street robbery as the jumping off point for the action. This movie will examine Peter’s own mysterious parents and how his fate is tied to theirs.

His effort to discover his father’s past leads him to Dr. Connors and his dark secret. There’s also a great demonstration of Spider-Man’s amazing skills. Check out the clip below.

The Film will theaters July 3, for the big Fourth of July weekend.
