John Goodman, Billy Crystal and Steve Buscemi return for the prequel to their 2001 hit Monsters, Inc. A new trailer shows Mike and Sully during their uproarious college days at “Monster University.”

Ken Jeong, Kelsey Grammer, Rob Riggle and JB Smoove also lend their voices to characters. It’s the first prequel Pixar has ever produced, which is not suprprising.

Monsters, Inc. was hugely successful. It won near unanimous critical approval with a 95 rating on rottentomatoes, which tracks movie reviews. More than 80 percent of the people who saw it, also recommended it.

The follow up film, however, was tied up in corporate and legal wrangling for most of the decade between Disney and Pixar studios. The matter was settled when Disney bought Pixar.

The trailer opens with a little background on the film concept. After all, it’s been a decade since the original release. What children don’t know is that monsters had to go to college to become scary.

The clip flashes to a dorm, with a party in full swing, and Sully pulling a prank on Mike that would probably get him kicked out of most colleges today for hazing, or some sort of insensitivity.

But, hey, they’re monsters! The film is set for release on June 21, 2013. Check out the trailer below.
