Charlize Theron’s beautiful golden tresses are a thing of the past at least for the moment. She revealed her bald head for the first time on a visit to her home country of South Africa, where she’s filming her new movie

She’s was traveling with her newly adopted son Jacks and was spotted for the first time outside without a hat or scarf. Her hair is cut almost to the scalp in a buzz cut.

But not to worry. Charlize isn’t having a Britney Spears moment. She cut off all her hair for her new role as “Furiosa” in a new “Mad Max” sequel, “Fury Road.” It’s the fourth film about a post-apocalyptic world run by gangs who get around on crazy modified vehicles.

Tom Hardy is taking over the role played by Mel Gibson in the rough and tumble action-adventure film. It’s the first film without him.

Theron will be missing the lower half of her left arm in the role. (Thank god she didn’t cut that off, too!) Her stunt double is Annabelle Williams, a Paralympic swimming competitor from Australia, who has a congenital limb deficiency and cerebral palsy. Williams looks remarkably like Theron.

“I feel like the original ‘Mad Max’ created such a vivid world, that to go back and re-imagine it and kind of replay in that sandbox sounds like fun to me,” she said of the pic. “George really created a female character that I’ve never read anything like this. I mean, I’m scared shitless!”

“It’s been three years; it’s time to skin this cat already!” she said.
