Robocop has taken on a new look for the upcoming update of the 1980s film, but the new cyborg suit is disappointing ardent fans because it looks like a cheap Batman cast off. Likewise, Robocop’s police car.

Although the movie is set in 2046, the car looks like a thinly disguised Chevrolet. Hello, product placement.

The film, which stars Joel Kinnaman, Jay Baruchel, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton and Michael K. Williams, has been called a reimagination of the original story, which originally appeared in 1987 and was followed by two sequels in 1990 and 1993.

The films developed a distinct cult following. Fans became particularly attached to the distinctly robotic look of the main character, who was half human and half machine. The films were so popular they spun off merchandise, a television series, two animated TV series and mini-series, video games and comic book adaptations.

The movie was also known for it’s campy take on a number of social issues like gentrification, corruption, privatization and corporations.

“It just comes from the realization that our vision of a robot 30 years from now is very different from the vision of what a robot was in the future in 1987,” said Kinnaman, who plays the cyborg, in an interview earlier this year.

The actor signaled that the robot suit would look very different in an interview with MTV. ‘There’s not going to be any twitchy robot, our vision of how a robot is going to be in 2046, it’s going to be a very human skin, it’s gonna look very human,” he said.

‘I’m going to be able to put my signature on the body language, too from an acting standpoint, walking around just moving your jaw, it’s not so interesting. So this is going to be an opportunity to really bring a full performance to it,” he added.
