Chloë Moretz is a fright in a new trailer for a reboot of the camp 1976 film “Carrie.” After she is bullied at school, the high schooler exacts revenge on a whole town through her demonic powers.

But the real fright in the new movie might well be Julianne Moore.

Although Moore doesn’t make an appearance in the 50-second teaser clip, she’s a scene stealer as Carrie’s strict, religious mother, Margaret White. The movie, based on Stephen King’s 1974 novel also stars Gabriella Wilde, Judy Greer, Ansel Elgort and Portia Doubleday.

Aided by modern special effects, Director Kimberly Peirce, of “Boys Don’t Cry” fame, should make a good run at topping the original, Brian De Palma cult classic. It starred Sissy Spacek as Carrie and, yes, John Travolta, along with Piper Laurie.

Carrie is bullied at school and mercilessly tormented by her psychotic mother. She nears the breaking point until she accidentally discovers that she has telekinetic powers when she gets made. So what does she do? She gets even.

The townspeople just can’t seem to come to grips with her supernatural abilities until it’s too late.

The 1976 film was a box office success and is a favorite around Halloween time. Oddly the new Carrie will hit theaters on March 15, 2013.
