The movie is a follow up to the surprisingly successful low-budget 2010 debut film “The Last Exorcism,” also starring Bell although, this time, directed by Ed Gass-Donnelly.
“The Last Exorcism” scored a strong 73 percent rating among critics on rottentomatoes.com, a website that tracks reviews. It also scored an impressive (for a genre film) $41 million box office gross compared with $1.8 million production cost.
No wonder CBS Films was ready to roll the dice on a sequel. It will be interesting to see of Gass-Donnelly can match the directing skill of “Last Exorcism” Director Daniel Stamm. The film was mostly praised for its taut story-telling.
“It’s not just the hand-held camera that will shake you up. ‘The Last Exorcism’ gives you good reason to be very afraid of the dark,” wrote Peter Travers of Rolling Stone.
The new trailer opens with a tight shot of Nell’s blank stare. She thinks she’s safe until the flashbacks start. New Orleans and Mardi Gras provide a spooky backdrop. Nell is tormented by other kids who discover her weird torment on, what else, the Internet.
