THE FIFTH ESTATEBenedict Cumberbatch has gone to work as Julian Assange in the new film “The Fifth Estate,” and studio Dreamworks today (Jan. 23) released some of the first photos from the set.

Assange is the controversial WikiLeaks leader, who riled the U.S. government by releasing thousands of pages of sensitive military documents over the Internet.

The documents included classified assessments of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and brutal characterizations of U.S. allies.

Here’s what Director Bill Condon Had to Say: “It may be decades before we understand the full impact of WikiLeaks and how it’s revolutionized the spread of information. So this film won’t claim any long view authority on its subject, or attempt any final judgment. We want to explore the complexities and challenges of transparency in the information age and, we hope, enliven and enrich the conversations WikiLeaks has already provoked.”

Cumberbatch is filming with Daniel Brühl, who plays Daniel Domscheit-Berg. The cast also includes Laura Linney, Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis, Peter Capaldi, Dan Stevens, Alicia Vikander and Carice van Houten, according to the studio.

The film follows Domscheit-Berg as he befriends Assange in the early days as the create and launch the controversial website, which has changed the role of the Internet and how information is disseminated to the public.

The story is adapted from two books, “Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World’s Most Dangerous Website” byDomscheit-Berg and “WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy” by David Leigh and Luke Harding.

The film will hit U.S. theaters on Nov. 15 thorugh Disney’s Touchstone label. DreamWorks as a financing the project with Participant Media. Previously, they partnered on Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln,” 2011 Academy Award-winner “The Help,” “The Kite Runner” and “The Soloist.”
