The Vatican’s official house organ L’Osservatore Romano has editorialized against Ridley Scott’s sci-fi movie “Prometheus,” claiming it’s “a bad idea to defy the gods.” Hopefully, something was lost in translation. The newspaper, which is the voice of the Vatican, and therefore the pontiff, charged that the movie “mishandles the delicate questions raised by… the battle eternal between good and evil in yet another attempt to [steal] the secret of immortality.”...

Downton Abbey Creator Sets Sail on Titanic Adventure (watch!)

Julian Fellowes, creator of the hit British series “Downton Abbey,” provides a fresh look at the great Titanic disaster with a special focus on the ship’s rigid class system, from the upper decks to the depth of steerage. The four-part mini-series will portray the ship “in a way that other versions haven’t been,” Fellowes told London’s Daily Mail newspaper. Fascination with the disaster has only intensified since the wreck was found on the sea floor in 1985....

Taylor Kitsch and his trusty confederates on Mars will get a lift from the Super Bowl. Disney is hyping the sci-fi feature with a ticket giveaway to next year’s Super Bowl. Kitsch plays protagonist John Carter, a weary Confederate Civil War captain, who is mysteriously transported to Mars, where he finds a decaying civilization deep in the throes of civil strife. The planet, which the natives call “Barsoom,” is dying as its oceans evaporate and its atmosphere dissipates....
