Female Director To Open Cannes Film Festival For First Time in 28 Years

Emmanuelle Bercot, a veteran French film director, will kick off the 68th Cannes Film Festival in May with her latest picture “La Tete Haute,” a feat last accomplished in 1987 by another French filmmaker, Diane Kurys, who directed “Un homme amoureux.” Bercot, 47, has also worked as an actress and a screenwriter. Joel, Ethan Coen Tapped to Head 68th Cannes Film Festival Jury in May

Joel and Ethan Coen, known for quirky cult films like “Raising Arizona,” and “The Big Lebowski,” will take over as co-president of the 68th Cannes Film Festival jury, which awards the prestigious Palme d’Or, or Golden Palm, among other awards. Last year’s Palme winner was “Winter Sleep,” a Turkish film that examined the wide class divide between rich and poor in Turkey.
