Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne and other cast members from the new musical film, “Les Miserables,” show off their vocal skills in five new clips featuring songs from the Victor Hugo classic. The ambitious British production, directed by Tom Hooper and scripted by William Nicholson, stars a high-powered ensemble cast that also includes Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried and Samantha Barks. The film is actually an adaption of the musical by Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schönberg and Herbert Kretzmer. Their work, in turn, is based on the classic 1862 French novel by Hugo....

Russell Crowe is featured as Javert in Victor Hugo’s “Les Miserables.” A police inspector, he previously worked at a prison where Jean Valjean was serving a sentence at hard labor for stealing a loaf of bread. He becomes Valjean’s savior and tormentor. Javert pursues Valjean relentlessly, determined to put him back in prison. He eventually arrives in Montreuil-sur-Mer, where he has been appointed police inspector. He suspects that Monsieur Madeleine the town mayor and wealthy factory owner might, in fact, be Jean Valjean....

Samantha Barks plays Éponine, the Thénardiers’ coddled daughter in Les Miserables, the 19th Century Victor Hugo novel, on which the musical movie is based.
