Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins comes full circle in “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.” The second trailer for the epic finale gives a taste of the monumental clash that’s looming between the dragon Smaug, the Necromancer Sauron and the dwarves, elves, orcs of Middle Earth. Galadriel (Cate Blanchett), Saruman the White (Christopher Lee) and the White Council have thrown their support behind Gandalf (Ian McKellen) in an effort to turn back Sauron before he can capture the mountain....

I never read The Hobbit nor the “Lord of the Rings” series, but when the opportunity came to see a screening of “The Hobbit,” I jumped at the chance. I was dazzled not so much by the story, but by director Peter Jackson’s epic work. Elijah Wood, who appears briefly as Frodo, was good. But Martin Freeman in the titular role as the young Bilbo Baggins is spot-on, Gollum is brilliantly essayed by Andy Serkis....

Martin Freeman as young Bilbo Baggins has his first encounter the wiry Gollum in a new trailer for the upcoming movie “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.” Bilbo wants to find a way out of Gollum’s slimy lair, but Gollum has other plans for the Hobbit. “Oh, we like goblinses, batses, and fishes, but we haven’t tried Hobbits,” says the wiry creature. “But we haven’t tried Hobbits yet. Tell me is it soft? Is it juicy?” As Gollum presses in perilously close, Bilbo draws his sword and begins waving it wildly. “Keep your distance! I will use this if I have to,” he threatens....

'The Hobbit' Causes 27 Animal Deaths; Animal Groups Outraged

Animal rights groups are up in arms over the deaths of 27 animals that were used to film the wildly popular movie “The Hobbit.” They are planning protests in New Zealand, the United States and the United Kingdom where filming has taken place. The film’s production company claims none of the animals died while actually shooting scenes. Rather they were housed on farms that included so called “death traps.” But the “wranglers” specifically charged with caring for the animals said they complained in vain to the Warner Bros. owned production company. ...
