Ryan Murphy 'New Normal' Rips Off 'Modern Family' (watch!)

Ryan Murphy’s new comedy “The New Normal” got it’s first airing during NBC’s Olympic coverage and it doesn’t seem so new. It seems more like a knock off of ABC’s “Modern Family.” But when you can’t create, you duplicate. “Modern Family” revolves around the life of Jay Prichett (Ed O’Neill) and his children, Claire (Julie Bowen) and gay Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson). Enter “The New Normal.” The show is about, you got it, a gay couple David (Justin Bartha) and Bryan (Andrew Rannells)....

Sherman Hemsley, Immortalized as TV's George Jefferson, Dies

Sherman Hemsley, who played a black racial bigot to hilarious effect on the hit '70s show "All in the Family" and later on his own show "The Jeffersons," marked a pivotal period in television history and became a cultural touchstone. He died today at 74. Details surrounding his death are sketchy. He left no wife or children. His body was found by a nurse who could not rouse him. Police attributed his death to natural causes, according to his agent, Todd Frank....

J.J. Abrams' Sci-Fi Show 'Fringe' Gets New Life from Fox

Lost-wunderkund J. J. Abrams’ show “Fringe” has been nothing short of brilliant for almost of all its four seasons. Fox finally announced it’s renewing the epic show for a shortened-13-episode season. It was the right call. Truth be told, the current season has been its weakest yet, with a reveal of an alternate universe (always cause for concern!). Yet the acting by principals Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson and, in particular, John Noble, is just off the charts....

Jason Isaacs Stars in 'Awake,' TV's Hot New Sci-Fi Drama

Sci-fi devotees have watched boatloads of shows come and go on the small screen. But when “Awake” debuted several weeks back on NBC, I decided to give it a shot. Shows like “Millennium,” “The Event,” “Jericho,” “Torchwood,” “Fast Forward,” The Nine” and “Heroes,” all started strong, but were soon abandoned by the networks that aired them, often with plots dangling. Let’s hope, the story is different with “Awake.”...

Jennifer Love Hewitt Cleavage Upstages New Show (photos)

Jennifer Love Hewitt’s cleavage is getting more publicity than her new show “The Client List.” Make that disappearing cleavage. A digitally altered promo photo was as much a surprise to her as it was to everyone else. In the photo promoting the show, her cleavage was toned down even though she was neither consulted nor approved the photo. Which seems like a strange move since the show is about prostitution....

Katrina Bowden Rouses Lads in FHM Cheerleader Issue

Katrina Bowden, best known as Cerie on NBC’s hit comedy “30 Rock,” knows how to make the lads stand up and cheer. She shows her stuff in FHM magazine’s cheerleader issue. Bowden, 23, who is the assistant to Tina Fey’s character Liz on the show, has model beauty and all-American girl looks. She’s perfect for the part in skimpy cheerleader outfits....

Dustin Hoffman's Luck: New Show a Brilliant Failure

Talk about an ironic title. HBO abruptly shut down production on Dustin Hoffman's iconic new series "Luck" after a third horse died on the set. Say what you will, but the show, having just aired its fourth installment, was finally picking up steam. With an esteemed cast, including producer/star Dustin Hoffman, Dennis Farina, Michael Gambon, Nick Nolte, Jason Gedrick and Kevin Dunn, HBO no doubt was expecting another Sopranos-like show....

Jennifer Love Hewitt Talks Naughty Secrets in Maxim (photos!)

Jennifer Love Hewitt has stripping for photographers lately. When you’re promoting a new series, “The Client List,” where you play a brothel madam, the sexy poses come with the territory. She makes her latest appearance in Maxim magazine as the cover for a “Girls of the ’90s” feature. But she looks every bit as fresh today....

Barry Glazer Reflects on Career, New Regis Philbin TV Venture

Barry Glazer, a four-time Emmy winning director, has teamed up with talk-show powerhouse Regis Philbin to develop prime-time television entertainment programming that could see a return to a modern-day variety show. The unique partnership also includes cable television veteran Edward Walson and writer-producer-show runner Cort Casady. Where it goes is anyone's guess, but Regis is focused on family entertainment....

Jerry Seinfeld Does Five Hilarious Super Bowl Ads (watch!)

Jerry Seinfeld has always liked to work the room, and he takes on some tough audiences in an Acura commercial that will air during the Super Bowl on Feb. 5. The comedian will do almost anything to get the new NSX. Seinfeld, of course, is a television legend for his eponymous sit-com, which aired for almost 10 years from 1989 to 1998. Since then, he’s flown largely under the radar, aside from a brief stint on the show “Marriage Counselor.”...
