bret_michaelsPoison front man Bret Michaels is better and his condition reportedly has been upgraded from critical to stable, but the cause of his brain hemorrhage and the extent of long-term damage is still undetermined.

Michaels was a contestant on Donald Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice” reality show when the April 22 incident occurred, and Trump said he’s been in contact with hospital personnel.

The Donald attributes the hemorrhage to a head injury that Michaels suffered almost a year ago at the 2009 Tony Awards.

Michaels was knocked to the ground last June by a piece of stage scenery that fell and struck him on the head, following a live performance with Poison at awards. Bret got X-rays taken and required three stitches in his lip.

[Bret is in] “big, big trouble and the prognosis is not great,” Trump, 63, told TMZ April 26.

But Bret’s father Wally Sychak, told Extra today (Apr. 27) that his son is better.

“Well, the fact that he was talking to me, and giving me information, I thought that was great. I understood that this was a terrible ordeal that he was going through,” his father said.

“We’re not getting information right now. I guess no news is good news,” he added.

TheImproper reported Monday (Apr. 26) that Micheals could speak but his speech was slurred. His father confirmed that today.

“He sounded a little slow, but fine,” Sychak said. “He was talking, not as cheerful as he usually is. But he understood what he was saying and knew me. Everything seemed good that way.”

He said his son also was “moving his arms and hands.”

Michaels has had Type 1 diabetes since he was a youth. On April 19 (3 days before he was rushed to the hospital), he underwent an emergency appendectomy.

Poorly treated diabetes can cause strokes and heart attacks, according to medical references.

It’s not clear whether his brain and appendix complications were related, but doctors think his recovery will be complicated by his diabetes.
