Anna Wintour may be English, but the English don’t want her as the next U.S. Ambassador. At least not the political conservatives, who are hoping outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will persuade President Obama to drop the Vogue magazine editor from consideration. Wintour caused an uproar when her name emerged on a shortlist of possible replacements for outgoing ambassador Louis Susman, whom Obama appointed after the 2008 election....

Jamie Foxx Calls Obama Almighty; Right Rains Hell Fire, Brimstone

Jamie Foxx may have been preaching to the choir when he declared President Obama “our Lord and Savior,” during the BET Soul Train Awards Sunday night, but he’s bringing down hell fire and brimstone from right-wing evangelicals who prefer to see Obama in, shall we say, a different light. Foxx may have been fighting fire-with-fire by bestowing on Obama a title normally reserved for, you know, God. After all, ardent religious opponents called Obama the Anti-Christ during the election campaign. ...

Tom Cruise $50M Tabloid Lawsuit; Time for Reality Check

Tom Cruise is taking on another “mission impossible” task; he’s filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against two tabloid magazines. Although he’s not likely to get very far in court, the suit is a rare reality check on increasingly reckless reporting by celebrity magazines and Websites. The practice causes two major problems. It undercuts the credibility of legitimate reporting based on real sources and it’s patently unfair to news outlets and Websites that try to maintain some standards in their reporting....

Emma Watson has become one of the reigning queens of UK fashion. She covers the all-important Sept. fashion issue, usually the largest of the year, for the UK edition of Glamour magazine. Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan was forced to acknowledge he lied when he said he ran a marathon in under three hours, but only after he was called out on it by the news media.
