Christopher Tierney, the actor who fell 35 feet from his perch in the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark will return to the show this week, but as a member of the audience.

Tierney, 31, was released from The Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine on Wednesday, after suffering serious injuries in the fall some 18 days ago. The show has been plagued by technical difficulties and accidents.

Three other actors have been injured and lead actress quit the show last month. The $65 million show officially opens Feb. 7 and has been in previews.

Tierney, making his Broadway debut was dressed as Spiderman and had already swung multiple times over the audience.

The accident occurred when jumped from a ledge as the show was wrapping up, but the safety harness was not secured.

Tierney suffered a fractured skull, a fractured shoulder blade, four broken ribs and three broken vertebrae in the fall. The accident left him in a back brace and with eight screws in his back.

But he is planning to attend Friday’s performance, show spokesman Rick Miramontez said.

“Each day there’s progress. I’m up and walking around with very little pain,” he told The Associated Press.

“It’s good that it happened to me. I’m kind of a horse like that — I like to get back up after being knocked down. It’s a new challenge, character-building kind of thing.”

Tierney has blamed his injuries on a freak accident.
