Lady Gaga isn’t being so lady-like about reports that she snubbed the star-studded re-recording of Lionel Ritchie’s and Michael Jackson’s “We Are the World” to raise money for Haiti victims.
The Fame singer was initially reported to be among the 80-plus celebrities invited to perform the 1985 hit. But when she failed to appear during the recording session Monday night (Feb 1), word spread that she had snubbed the event.
But Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotti, said singing with the group was never on her schedule.
“I was never supposed to do ‘We Are The World.’ I believe that [Richie and producer Quincy Jones] may have asked about it, but I was unable to do it,” she said.
Gaga also re-assured all her little monsters (read fans) that she has been doing her part to raise money for Haiti. She reportedly donated the profits from tickets and merchandise sales at a recent New York show to Haiti charities.
“I’ve been working on my own charity projects for Haiti. We’ve raised over half a million dollars for Haiti already and we like to work specifically with charities that are based in Haiti itself.” she told Billy Bush during a radio interview yesterday (Feb. 4)
Gaga won two awards at the recent Grammys, and kicked off the night with an electrifying performance with Elton John.
