American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert sent temperatures soaring when he intimated that he was joining iconic rock band Qeeen as frontman, only the second since the death of Freddie Mercury. But guess again.
“The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some f*****g great songs,” Lambert told the UK’s Daily Star. It’s to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of.”
Mercury died in 1991 from complications related to AIDS, and band mates guitarist Brian May, 64 and drummer Roger Taylor, 62, have toured with Paul Rodgers. He fronted for the band for five years until 2009.
Lambert sang with the band during his stint on American Idol. He also sang with them at MTV’s EMAs in Belfast last November, and drew praise from Taylor afterward.
“He has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice with a range that’s great,” the drummer told Billboard. “There’s nothing signed just yet but we’re talking about live dates. It could be very exciting.”
“There’s no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That’s impossible,” Lambert said. “The way I’m choosing to view it is that it’s a great honor and one I’m in no way going to shirk.”
But Lambert was either misinterpreted or over-hyped his deal with Queen. He later issued a retraction on Twitter and blamed it on the Star for reporting his comments out of context. Lambert said he was only talking about his performance at the EMAs, not a tour.
Or could it be that he was just trying to get some publicity for his new album,Trespassing, which debuts March 19? “Trespassing is much more of an album, not just a collection of would-be singles like my first record,” he said.

Another one who gets it wrong. Lambert said the same thing he has been saying all along but it’s articles like the one above who twists things. He was talking about the EMA’s when he made the above statement. He has said all along they are in talks and nothing is firm. It’s not rocket science. What is up with this need for journalists to twist words?
The quotes used in the “interview” with Star were quotes he gave months ago (EMA time). He has said in recent actual interviews that there are some 1-offs in the works, but not a tour and nothing is confirmed.

OMG people. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Both Adam and Roger have said they will be working together again. It’s the “tour” that’s being denied at this time. They will likely be doing some one offs together. Sheesh.
Keep in mind that this was originally reported by a tabloid the equivalent of The Enquirer – if you get my drift.
Love his latest single, Better Than I Know Myself, its abolutely outstanding, and I’m looking forward to his album Trespassing coming out in March!!!!
lol, this doesn’t deserve hits but I’ll bite anyway. It’s going to happen and soon. The three of them, Brian, Roger, and Adam are just quietly humming to themselves enjoying all the speculation. Brian and Roger have no monetary reason to tour as Queen, they’ve got the tribute band lined up for that. Adam has fans in every country in the world saving money and praying to the tour gods for a chance to see his own Trespassing tour this year or next.
And the EMAs proved that they can put on a show together that’s crazy good and they can do it any time they want to. “Hey, you got next weekend free?” “Yeah, what’s up?” And that’s about all the notice they’ll give us too, if that much. They seem to like surprises, heh.
They didn’t even announce Adam’s name at the EMAs but that didn’t change the headlines the next morning. “Adam Lambert & Queen Thrill at the EMAs with Stunning Performance.”
No tepid temperature here, nope. Better watch the barometer instead… the Adam Storm is coming.
Good Grief! Why can’t the media get things straight?
Oh right I’m sure a venerable institution like the UK tab rag the Daily Star that is barely fit for lining a catbox would never massage a couple old quotes to fit the story they’re pushing. And they would never pull a couple more quotes straight out of their butts that sound nothing iike Adam’s typical tone and verbiage lol.
What I find hilarious is how far this story spread and how many actual reputable media outlets basically published the equivalent the Enquirer verbatim. Side eyeing you, Rolling Stone, I saw that change to your article without any indication that you’d been bamboozled by an ambitious tab writer spinning a great story in their cube. Also a head shake at both my local news and my Dad’s classic rock radio station (which netted me a funny voicemail from Dad).
Seriously, does anyone bother getting corroboration or confirmation of stories anymore? RIP journalism.
