Guitar god Joe Walsh, most famously of The Eagles, rails against today’s digital world on “Analog Man,” the lead single off his new album, the first in 20 years. Now if he can only find an analog woman.

Walsh, 64, hasn’t lost a thing from the heyday of his career with the James Gang and The Eagles. His new song is filled with zinging guitar rifts and lyrics that double as social commentary, something remarkably missing from most pop music today.

Walsh, however, sees himself as an anachronism. He’s a throwback to the days when records were punctuated by the hiss and pop of vacuum tube recording equipment and old fashioned microphones. The sound was far more authentic than digital recordings and autotune wonders who pass as singers today.

He blames the situation squarely on all things digital, from flat-screen TVs to computers.

Welcome to cyberspace, I’m lost in the fog
everything’s digital I’m still analog.
When something goes wrong,
I don’t have a clue,
Some 10-year-old smart ass has to show me what to do.

But he’s not just upset about electronics. He sees how degraded life has become, with a hundred cable channels and nothing on, but commercials, commercials, commercials.

too bad for the children,
